Online Safety Week 4!

18th May 2018

Last week was the fourth of our five Online Safety focus weeks.

  • Year 1 gathered in groups to discuss ways of staying safe online. They made posters and drew all the things to keep them safe and then presented their posters to the rest of the class.
  • Year 2 focused on how to use the Internet for good only. They read the Digiduck story and discussed good and bad comments online. In groups they sequenced a series of pictures from the story to retell what happened.
  • Year 3 pupils were learning about keywords and the need to be specific when searching for information on the Internet. They used key words to search for key facts on different animals.
  • Year 4 watched 'Lee and Kim- keeping safe online' to learn about the importance of not giving out personal information online. They created informative posters with top tips for gaming safely online.
  • Year 5 pupils were discussing citing sources and the importance of recognising the work of others. To extend their learning they completed an online treasure hunt, cited their sources for their answers and then created a list of their favourite websites.
  • Year 6 focused on cyberbullying and watched a powerful video from the 'Newsround' website. They had group discussions about responsible and appropriate behaviour online. They also brainstormed ways of dealing with situations involving cyberbullying. They wrote poems to convey their negative thoughts about cyberbullying.
  • Year 7 researched various apps looking at age restrictions, privacy settings and terms and conditions. After watching a 'Horrible Histories- protect thy privacy' video online, they created posters to display the advantages and disadvantages of popular apps.
